The metric socket set will come in handy for anything imported. It seems that imports use metric and things made in the United States use the standard sockets. There is a difference that you might not see, but it does exist. Never try to use one or the other on something that is made for the other socket size. Keep the socket sets separated and you should have no problem mistaking a 5mm for 1/2 inch. When you buy a metric socket wrench set, always made sure it has the extension piece for easy reach into deep places.

Metric Socket Sets
The metric wrench set is used on the newer import cars and some other household items. The socket sets are very useful when an open box wrench just will not do the job. There are many instances where a person would need a socket. If you have a tight place to get into, the metric socket will fit much better. The cranking power of the wrench set is much easier than using an open box wrench. The metric sockets will not work on bolts that are standard in size. If something says 5mm that would be the metric socket size. If it would say 1/2 inch, that would be a standard socket.

Standard Socket Sets
Imported cars are usually metric and require the metric tools. You cannot use standard sockets on any metric bolts or you can damage them. This could be costly if the damage is severe. The metric socket set is hard to distinguish from the standard socket set, so you have to keep them separated or look a teach one before you use it. Most metric socket wrench sets come with ten different sizes, which in most cases is all you would need. If you work on larger object or vehicles, you would probably need the full set of sockets.
