The Standard Wrench Set
The standard set is used for most household and American vehicle repair. The sockets are measured in inches rather than the metric socket sets that are measured a different way. The metric bolts and standard bolts are different and are not interchangeable. The sockets cannot be interchangeable as well. There is a big different in the sizes and the bolt heads. If you would try to use a metric on a standard bolt head, it would not fit. If you try to use a standard socket on a metric bolt head, it could become damaged.
When buying a standard wrench, make sure the set include the extension for getting to hard to reach places that are further away from the socket. These extensions help your reach deeper into engines where most bolts are hard to reach. The smaller socket set has the smaller sizes and the biggest size is the 5/8 inch. You will get ten to twelve socket sizes, an extension and a cranking handle. The cranking handle attaches to the socket. The sockets make many jobs easier because of the cranking power. The open box wrenches require muscles to use, but the sockets use the cranking handle to give more leverage and less skinned knuckles.
When you work on cars or even some household items, they are needed. The sockets work much better than the open box wrenches or even the vice grip. It is nice to have the cranking power that a socket set gives when you need to get a bolt loose that has been tight for many years. The socket works for the best on rusted bolt after you spray it with WD-40. There are some sets that are not up to par in quality, but there are many brands that stand up to the pressure.
